How to Get Tiny Heart Nude Nails at Home

Difficulty: Beginner-friendlyTime: 40 minWear: 2–3 weeks

Your own nails, only smoother and glossier, plus one tiny white heart on the ring finger. It is short, quiet and works for the office, a wedding guest outfit or a weekend. Two products do almost everything: a sheer nude jelly and a white liner with a built-in thin brush.

The colour story

The nude is a sheer pink-peach that lets the nail show through, so it suits most skin tones. The heart is plain white and small, about the size of a grain of rice, so it reads as a detail rather than a design.

Step by step

  1. Prep

Push back cuticles, shape to a short squoval, and lightly buff the shine off the nail plate, including the free edge. Brush off the dust, wipe with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator, and let the nail dry completely.

  2. Base coat

Brush on a thin layer and cap the free edge. Keep it off the skin and cuticles. If a coat feels hot, take your hand out and finish the cure in short passes.

    Cure 60–90 s
  3. Sheer nude, 2 coats

Apply two thin coats of sheer nude, capping the free edge, and cure after each one. It should look glassy, not opaque.

    Cure 60 s per coat
  4. One tiny heart

On the ring nail only, wipe most of the white liner off the brush. Place two small dots side by side, just right of centre, then pull each dot down and in so they meet in a point. Keep the heart about 2–3 mm wide. If it looks sheer, cure and go over it once more.

    Cure 60 s
  5. Glossy top coat

Seal every nail with the no-wipe top coat and cap the edges. Do not wipe this coat after curing. A SUNUV lamp may need less time, and the instructions on the bottle win.

    Cure 90–120 s

Pro tips

  • Smaller than you think. The heart in the photo is tiny. If it is wider than a third of the nail, the set stops looking minimal.
  • Practise first. Paint three or four hearts on a piece of foil or a spare tip before the real nail. The two-dots method gets easy fast.
  • Sheer means even. Streaks show on a jelly. Two thin, even coats look better than one thick one.
  • Thumbs flat in the lamp. A tilted thumb sits in the shadow of the lamp and can stay under-cured. Cure thumbs flat, or cure them on their own.
  • Patch-test first. Gel can cause allergies. Keep it off your skin and cuticles, and stop if you get itching or redness.

FAQ

Which nail gets the heart?

The photo uses the ring nail. Any single nail works, but one accent is what keeps it quiet.

Can I use a different base?

Yes. Milky White, in the alternatives, gives a softer, milkier base. The heart then shows less, so use French White for it.

How long does it last, and how do I remove it?

With good prep and thin, fully cured layers, expect about 2–3 weeks. To remove, lightly buff the shine off the top coat, soak a cotton pad in acetone, and wrap each nail in foil for at least 15 minutes. Then gently push the gel off. If it still holds, soak for another 5 minutes. Never peel it.
