How to Get Soft Green French Nails at Home

Difficulty: Beginner-friendlyTime: 45 minWear: 2–3 weeks

The same quiet French as the soft blue and the grey modern tips, in sage. A sheer nude does the work. The green is only a thin line at the squoval edge, so it stays easy to wear.

The color story

The nude is sheer and peachy. The tip is a soft sage, muted rather than mint-bright, about 1.5 to 2 mm deep and a little deeper at the corners.

Beetles No-Wipe Top Coat & Base Coat Set

The base coat helps the gel grip. The no-wipe top coat blends the tip into the nude and gives the glassy shine.

Step by step

  1. Prep

Push back cuticles, shape to a short squoval, and lightly buff the shine off the nail plate, including the tip. Brush off the dust, wipe with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator, and let the nail dry completely.

  2. Base coat

Brush on a thin layer and cap the edge. Keep it off the skin and cuticles. If a coat feels hot, take your hand out and finish the cure in short passes.

    Cure 60–90 s
  3. Sheer nude, 2 coats

Apply two thin coats of sheer nude, capping the edge, and cure after each one. The nail should look glassy, not opaque.

    Cure 60 s per coat
  4. Green tip

Wipe most of the sage off the brush. Paint a thin tip about 1.5–2 mm deep that follows the squoval, a little deeper at the corners. Cap the edge. Clean any wobble with a small brush dipped in alcohol before curing.

    Cure 60 s
  5. Second pass (if needed)

If the sage looks streaky, add one more thin pass on the tip only and cure again.

    Cure 60 s
  6. Glossy top coat

Seal every nail with the no-wipe top coat and cap the edges. Do not wipe this coat after curing. A SUNUV lamp may need less time, and the instructions on the bottle win.

    Cure 90–120 s

Pro tips

  • Thin is the look. On short nails a deep tip eats the nude. Keep the sage to about 2 mm.
  • Turn the hand, not the brush. Rotate your finger under a steady brush. The line follows the squoval more easily.
  • Match the corners. Start and end the tip at the same height on both sides, or the squoval looks lopsided.
  • Thumbs flat in the lamp. A tilted thumb sits in the shadow of the lamp and can stay under-cured. Cure thumbs flat, or cure them on their own.
  • Patch-test first. Gel can cause allergies. Keep it off your skin and cuticles, and stop if you get itching or redness.

FAQ

How is this different from the blue and grey French looks?

Same sheer nude and the same thin-tip method. Soft blue uses a baby-blue tip on short round nails. Grey modern uses a soft grey tip on a medium almond. This one uses a sage tip on a short squoval. Moss Green, in the alternatives, is the deeper olive if Misty Sage looks too light.

Can I skip the sheer nude?

You can paint the tip on a bare nail over the base coat, but the nude evens out the nail and makes the tip look cleaner, as in the photo.

How long does it last, and how do I remove it?

With good prep and thin, fully cured layers, expect about 2–3 weeks. To remove, lightly buff the shine off the top coat, soak a cotton pad in acetone, and wrap each nail in foil for at least 15 minutes. Then gently push the gel off. If it still holds, soak for another 5 minutes. Never peel it.
