How to Get Tiny Crescent Moon Accent Nails at Home

Difficulty: Beginner-friendlyTime: 40 minWear: 2–3 weeks

Halloween for people who do not want costume nails. A glassy nude on every nail and one tiny crescent moon on the ring finger. It still looks right in November.

The colour story

Sheer pink-nude lets the nail show through. The moon is plain black and small, so it reads as a detail.

Step by step

  1. Prep

Push back cuticles, shape the nails, and lightly buff the shine off the nail plate, including the free edge. Brush off the dust, wipe with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator, and let the nail dry completely.

  2. Base coat

Brush on a thin layer and cap the free edge. Keep it off the skin and cuticles.

    Cure 60–90 s
  3. Sheer nude, 2 coats

Apply two thin coats of sheer nude, capping the free edge, and cure after each one.

    Cure 60 s per coat
  4. One crescent moon

On the ring nail, draw a small C about 3 mm tall with the black liner, then draw a second, shallower curve inside it and fill the gap. Keep the inner edge crisp.

    Cure 60 s
  5. Glossy top coat

Seal every nail with the no-wipe top coat and cap the edges. Do not wipe this coat after curing. The instructions on the bottle win.

    Cure 90–120 s

Pro tips

  • Outline, then fill. Drawing the two curves first and filling in afterwards gives a cleaner moon than one stroke.
  • Smaller than you think. Keep the moon under a third of the nail width so it stays minimal.
  • Patch-test first. Gel can cause allergies. Keep it off your skin and cuticles, and stop if you get itching or redness.

FAQ

Is this only for Halloween?

No. Without other spooky details it works all autumn, and a gold moon makes it a winter look.

How long does it last, and how do I remove it?

With good prep and thin, fully cured layers, expect about 2–3 weeks. To remove, lightly buff the shine off the top coat, soak a cotton pad in acetone, and wrap each nail in foil for at least 15 minutes. Then gently push the gel off. If it still holds, soak for another 5 minutes. Never peel it.
