How to Get Pastel Ghost Soft Duo Nails at Home

Difficulty: Beginner-friendlyTime: 45 minWear: 2–3 weeks

A soft lilac set with one tiny friendly ghost on the ring finger. From across the room it reads as a quiet pastel. Up close, the ghost is the Halloween wink. One crème, a little white gel and a fine liner are the whole design.

The colour story

The lilac stays soft, a pale lavender crème rather than a bright purple. The ghost is small, flat white, with two dots and a short smile, so the colour stays the point.

Step by step

  1. Prep

Push back cuticles, shape to a medium oval, and lightly buff the shine off the nail plate, including the free edge. Brush off the dust, wipe with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator, and let the nail dry completely.

  2. Base coat

Brush on a thin layer and cap the free edge. Keep it off the skin and cuticles. If a coat feels hot, take your hand out and finish the cure in short passes.

    Cure 60–90 s
  3. Lilac, 2 coats

Apply Lavender Haze in two thin coats, capping the free edge, and cure after each one. It should look even, not streaky. Thin coats cure fully.

    Cure 60 s per coat
  4. One tiny ghost

On the ring nail only, paint a small rounded blob with French White, a little wider at the bottom. Keep it smaller than the nail. Cure, then add a second thin pass if the lilac shows through. For the sticker route, wipe the cured lilac with alcohol, let it dry, press on one small ghost, and seal it under the top coat.

    Cure 60–90 s
  5. Eyes and smile

Wipe most of the black liner off the brush. Dot two eyes and pull a short smile. Keep the liner off the skin. Skip this step if the sticker already has a face.

    Cure 60 s
  6. Glossy top coat

Seal every nail with the no-wipe top coat and cap the edges. Do not wipe this coat after curing. The sticker needs it or it will lift.

    Cure 60–90 s

Pro tips

  • Keep the ghost small. If it covers most of the nail, the set stops looking soft. Aim for a ghost you only notice up close.
  • White needs a longer cure. Opaque white blocks the lamp. Thin coats, 60–90 seconds each, or the ghost wrinkles.
  • One accent nail. The photo uses a single ghost. A ghost on every nail reads as a costume.
  • Thumbs flat in the lamp. A tilted thumb sits in the shadow of the lamp and can stay under-cured. Cure thumbs flat, or cure them on their own.
  • Patch-test first. Gel can cause allergies. Keep it off your skin and cuticles, and stop if you get itching or redness.

FAQ

Can I skip the painting and use a sticker?

Yes. Cure the lilac, wipe it with alcohol so the sticker sits on a dry nail, press on the smallest plain ghost from the sticker sheet, then seal it with the no-wipe top coat. The painted ghost matches the photo more closely if you want that exact simple face.

What if I want it pinker?

Lavender Haze is the lilac in this look. Amazon titles it as a lilac, lavender and violet crème. Milky Taro, in the extras, is a pinker, milkier option. Amazon files that bottle under a pink colour name, so check the listing before you buy.

How long does it last, and how do I remove it?

With good prep and thin, fully cured layers, expect about 2–3 weeks. To remove, lightly buff the shine off the top coat, soak a cotton pad in acetone, and wrap each nail in foil for at least 15 minutes. Then gently push the gel off. If it still holds, soak for another 5 minutes. Never peel it.
