How to Get Soft Candy Corn Tips at Home
Candy corn, worn as a micro French. A sheer nude nail, then three thin bands at the tip: yellow, orange, and a white edge. The bands stay narrow, so the hand still looks clean from across the room.
The colour story
The nude does most of the work. Yellow sits closest to the nail bed, orange in the middle, white only on the very edge. Each band is about the width of a matchstick, so the three colours read as one soft tip.

Step by step
Prep
Push back cuticles, file to a medium almond, and lightly buff the shine off the nail plate, including the free edge. Brush off the dust, wipe each nail with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator, and let it dry completely.
Base coat
Brush on a thin base and cap the free edge. Keep it off the skin and cuticles. If a coat feels hot, take your hand out and finish the cure in short passes.
Cure 60–90 sSheer nude, 2 coats
Apply two thin coats of sheer nude, capping the free edge, and cure after each. The nail should look glassy, not opaque.
Cure 60 s per coatYellow band
Wipe most of the yellow off the brush. Paint a band about 2 mm wide, set just in from where the orange will sit. Cure two nails at a time so it cannot creep.
Cure 60 sOrange band
Paint a band of the same width between the yellow and the edge. Leave a sliver of nail at the tip for the white. Wipe stray gel off the skin with a small brush dipped in alcohol before it goes under the lamp.
Cure 60 sWhite edge
Draw a hair-thin white line along the very edge, about 1 mm. Cap the free edge so the tip does not chip clear.
Cure 60–90 sGlossy top coat
Seal every nail with the no-wipe top coat and cap the edges. Do not wipe this coat after curing.

Pro tips
- Narrow bands. If any colour is wider than about 2 mm, the tip starts to look like a full candy-corn nail. Soft means thin.
- Cure between colours. Wet yellow and wet orange blend into one muddy band. Cure each colour before the next.
- White last. The white edge is the last colour. It covers a wobbly orange line and keeps the tip bright.
- Thumbs flat in the lamp. A tilted thumb sits in the shadow of the lamp and can stay under-cured. Cure thumbs flat, or cure them on their own.
- Patch-test first. Gel can cause allergies. Keep it off skin and cuticles, and stop if you get itching or redness.
FAQ
Do I need all three colours?
Yes, for this look. Yellow, orange and a white edge are what make the tip read as candy corn. Two colours reads as a regular French.
The orange looks peachier than the photo. Is that the right bottle?
Carly Coral Orange is a peachy coral crème, which is why the tip stays soft. On a thin band over yellow it still reads as candy corn. Lighting and how thick you paint it will change how bright it looks.
How do I remove it?
Lightly buff the shine off the top coat, soak a cotton pad in acetone, and wrap each nail in foil for at least 15 minutes. Then gently push the gel off. If it still holds, soak for another 5 minutes. Never peel it.
